Alpha Course starting Autumn 2008
This will be the third consecutive year that we have run an Alpha course. If you are interested in find out more about Alpha in general then follow the links to the Alpha website http://uk.alpha.org/home or the Alpha in Wales website http://www.alphawales.org.uk/index.htm
Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, low key friendly and fun.
Our Introductory Supper will be held at Dewstow Golf Club on Thursday 18th September at 7pm. This is an opportunity for people to come along have a meal and find out a bit more about Alpha. There will be a short DVD entitled “Is there more to Life than this?” and after that you will make up your own mind if you want to continue with the course (and we’re sure you will!). The actual courses will be run in people’s homes and will start with a meal followed by a DVD on various topics, such as “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “What about the Church?” There will then be an opportunity for discussion stemming from what you have seen. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.
There is no charge to attend an Alpha course but we do ask that, if possible, a donation is made towards the cost of the food.
If you’d like to register for the Introductory Supper please do so at a.mcbain@alphawales.org.uk before the 10th September. If you have any questions about the course e.g. if you can’t make the 18th September but you’d like to join a group, then get in touch at the same email address.
We look forward to seeing you.
PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
We need more helpers for Coffee Mornings on Tuesdays and Fridays, could you spare perhaps one morning a month, either to help serve the coffee or for washing up. If you are able to help please speak to one of the regular helpers.

9.00am Traditional Service
This is a traditional Methodist Service, catering for those who prefer a quiet, meditative service generally with standard hymns and prayers. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated once each month.
10.30am Worship and teaching for all.
Everyone is welcome!
There is a crèche and groups for young people from toddlers to teenagers, which meet together usually after a short period of less formal worship in the Church with the adults, to look at Bible stories and their relevance for us today using Scripture Union material.
The adults continue with their service in the church, where the Lord’s Supper is celebrated once a month.
Currently once a month is an All-Together service, (Family service), which is informal, but structured in order that gifts and talents are shared during our worship, and a Gospel message is presented.
(From 18th September 2007)
Tuesday 11am - 'Space to be..'
A relaxed, informal service lasting 20 - 30 minutes.
Open to all.
Join us after the service for a chat, or feel free to sit in the church, pray or light a candle.
Wednesday 9.30 - 10.00am Holy Communion
A short service of Holy Communion, using orders of service from the Methodist Worship Book. It is a time for quiet reflection in the business of the week.
We make sound recordings of church services on tape cassettes that can be played at home, and we have a tape ‘library’ of recorded services. If you don’t have a cassette player, a loan can be arranged.
The Minister is pleased to give you Holy Communion in your home, by appointment.
Please contact the Minister or a Steward so that we can make the arrangements.

The Swarm
Target Membership: Boys and Girls aged 11+
Meetings: Mondays 7-9pm
SWARM is a Monday night youth club with an exciting mix of games and activities, which also offers times for reflection and self expression. For the Autumn term our activities will fit broadly into the theme of identity and will include thought provoking games and team building exercises. We are building a club where everyone can find a welcome and discover a little about themselves. Swarm is 'a place to belong'.
THE HIVE
What’s the buzzzzzz!
On Wednesday evenings a loud buzzing noise can be heard coming from the church. This is the sound of children aged 5 – 11 in ‘The Hive’, our junior youth group which has been running since 1999.
We meet at 5.30 pm until 7.30pm during term time. Each week we have a choice of crafts and games, some weeks we have fun with drama and puppets.
Subs are 70p per child per week with siblings charged 50p. We have a tuck time and we ask that your child brings no more than 50p for this (30p is average).
Over this last year we have had visits from the charity Health Help International and Severn Area Rescue Association. (sara-rescue.org.uk).
We have a day trip in the summer term and occasional evenings out to see the local operatics or other events.
All our leaders are C.R.B. checked and include classroom assistants, play workers, childminders, and of course parents.
We are open to all, but unfortunately have a waiting list.
If you have any queries please contact - cathy_lewis@tiscali.co.uk
If you wish to add your child to the waiting list please e-mail their name, date of birth and contact phone number to the above e-mail address.
Mothers and Toddlers meet every Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11.00. The group seeks to serve the community by encouraging parents to bring along their infants from 0 – 2+ to develop their social skills as they interact with their peers.
For many children who live in cramped conditions, the ‘School Room’ is a wonder as they run around.
It is always good to have different toys other than your own and the group has acquired some really large pieces. The group is self-funding, subscribing to the church three times a year.
Thursday is also a time for parents, grandparents and child-minders to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee whilst the children have their juice and a biscuit. Birthdays are observed and presents and treats mark the high days and holidays.
Fridays 9.45am-12 noon:
FLOWER ARRANGING
There are around eight of us at present and we meet every week to arrange the Church flowers in readiness for Sunday. We also arrange flowers for wedding ceremonies if requested, as well as for any special occasions.
Thursdays 2.30-3.30pm:
SISTERHOOD
A midweek hour of worship and fellowship for all ladies.
Sisterhood has been a part of the weekday activities of our Church for many years and is much enjoyed by all the ladies who attend. We are of the mature age group, simply because of the timing of our meeting, when most younger women are at work or busy with their families. We have a varied programme of speakers and enjoy visits from our Ministers in the Circuit, whenever possible. We are a caring and friendly group and a warm welcome awaits anyone wishing to join our fellowship. Each meeting naturally concludes with tea and a chat.
Wednesday 7.30 - 9.00pm:
BIBLE STUDY GROUP
Led by experienced members of the congregation different aspects of the Bible and Christian living are explored together. A course of study is followed using Christian publications, which stimulate questions and discussions, and so discovering more about Scripture and our faith through personal experience. You will receive a warm welcome any time you come and join us.
Tuesdays 7.30-9.00pm – fortnightly:
FRIENDS & NEIGHBOURS
An interdenominational meeting for ladies of all ages.
Each meeting begins with a short devotional time, followed by a varied programme of guest speakers. Topics covered include such areas as local charitable organisations, historical and local interests and events. We also have quiz nights and an annual excursion to a theatre or an Arts & Crafts Centre.
Meetings conclude with refreshments and a friendly chat.
alternate Tuesdays at same times we have:-
MENS FELLOWSHIP
A meeting for men of all ages. More information to follow...
